Herb Vander Lugt (1920-2006) grew up in a large family during the Depression. He was married to his wife Virginia for 65 years. He enlisted in the US Army during WWII, serving in the Medic Corp in England. Although he was encouraged by his Army supervising doctors to become a physician, he felt a calling to the ministry. He graduated from Moody Bible Institute and Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary. He pastored at First Baptist Church in Carson City, First Baptist Church in Zeeland, Spring Lake Baptist, Trinity Baptist in Grand Rapids, Alaska Baptist Church, Church of the Open Door in Wyoming, and was Pastor Emeritus at Sparta Baptist Church. Pastor VanderLugt was often called upon to speak and fulfill interim pastorates. In 1967 he began working at Radio Bible Class where he became the senior research editor, a staff writer, and regular contributor to Our Daily Bread. He also authored many booklets and books.
