John The Baptizer

Why Did Jesus Call Him Great?

by Bill Crowder English

About this item

It was John’s role not only to prepare the way of the King but also to prepare the people who would be the recipients of the King’s message.

Provocative. Outrageous. Nonconformist. John didn’t get high marks from many of the social and religious leaders of his day. Yet Jesus referred to him as a model of greatness. Why? And what can we learn from someone whose life was shaped by the barrenness of the Judean wilderness but also by his role as the forerunner of the Messiah? In this booklet, Bill Crowder helps us find the timeless significance of this “voice crying in the wilderness.” Now, as much as in the past, significance is found not by following the crowd but by hearing the call to a new kind of greatness.
